Margaret Oliphant (1828-1897) was a popular Scottish writer. A widow who became the bread winner for her extended family, she was very prolific and wrote in a wide variety of genres.
'Diana Trelawny' is one of Oliphant's shortest novels. The heroine is a wealthy land owner, devoting her life to generous acts to her less fortunate neighbours. Her active life and strong-minded outlook inclines her to consider marriage as undesirable. However, when she follows her friends to Italy for a holiday, she encounters a handsome Count who stirs memories of a previous passion from her earlier life. Will she succumb to this new influence? The source was a public domain PDF file at the Internet Archive. It has been read through to correct OCR errors, please let me know if any further errors are spotted. The ZIP file contains the HTML text and two JPG files - a simple cover image and a portrait of Mrs. Oliphant. Please feel free to use these files for anything you wish. |
