Ada Leverson (1862–1933)
The Twelfth Hour (1907)

A good-humoured and witty look at love and marriage in Edwardian society, written by a woman who was a close friend of Oscar Wilde.
Lady Chetwode’s husband doesn’t come home often, and has the portrait of an unknown woman hidden in a velvet case. Her younger sister, Sylvia, loves her father’s secretary. However, her father wants her to marry a rich Greek banker, who is badly smitten by her. Their brother, Savile, is a precocious schoolboy with a crush on the singer, Adelina Patti. And their friend Vera is on the look-out for an adventure. Complications ensue. Will they be happily sorted out by the end of the book?
