Editing Kindle (.prc) metadata on a Mac
Hi folks! I'm a new Kindle owner who's somewhat frustrated because most of my downloaded .prc files do not display an author name. Is there a simple way a Mac user can edit title and author metadata for .prc files?
Thanks very much. |
Check out the Visual Kindle Guide wiki. There are instruction on how to work with metadata using mobiperl tools on the Mac.

I'd just install Calibre
http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/ It does a lot more than edit metadata, but it does that very simply and efficiently as well with a nice GUI. |

The metadata edits are stored in the database. But, if you do a send-to-device or convert the book the metadata in the copy is modified to match the metadata in the database. (I don't know if this happens if you do a save-to-disk.) BOb |

Calibre is a beautiful system and works very nicely on editing metadata in .PRC and .MOBI file but even though I alter metadata successfully in calibre for .AZW files, after I send to device I'm left with the old metadata on the Kindle. This is on files I've purchased from Amazon. Perhaps on those the metadata are stored elsewhere with DRM information.

calibre does not edit metadata on DRMed files.

Use Tommy's "mobi2mobi" tool. It works beautifully, even on files with DRM.
