Past Masters Thirty Four - The Little Old Man of Batignolles
Thank you for this, especially "The Little Old Man of Batignolles". Julian Symons, in his book "Bloody Murder", says that "Monsieur Lecoq" is the best of Gaboriau’s novels but “Le Petit Vieux de Batignolles” is undoubtedly his finest piece of work. I have a physical copy of the story but the font is too small for my old eyes, so Past Masters 34 is perfect. Cheers!

The cover (and the post) says "Emil" instead of "Émile". Funnily, your introductory text in the book sort of criticizes that kind of change ;)

Ah well... my ancient Paintshop Pro, used to make the covers, hasn't heard of the extended character set, but forgetting the e on the end of Émile is just just wrong.

I too, cling to my old Paintshop Pro v.9. I am still, all these years later, browned off that they sold out to Corel.
--- Re: extended character set --- as long as I am using a font in PSP to build the graphic that contains the special character, I paste in the character (usually from Sigil, but can also use a character map application), and have no problem getting the diacritics. Maybe the font you are using for these covers is the culprit. |
