Peter Neale was not intended by nature to be a father: he is too wrapped up in his own small pleasures and his job at the newspaper. But shortly after the birth of their son, Peter’s wife walks out on him and the baby to return to her theatrical career. The shambling, sloppy, rather prudish sportswriter must take up where she left off and learn what it takes to raise an infant and make him a successful young man.
========== Heywood Campbell Broun Jr. (December 7, 1888 – December 18, 1939) was an American journalist. He worked as a sportswriter, drama critic, newspaper columnist, and editor in New York City. He founded the American Newspaper Guild, later known as The Newspaper Guild and now as The NewsGuild-CWA. Often referred to as a “crusading journalist,” he is best remembered for his writing on social issues and his championing of the underdog. He believed that journalists could help right wrongs, especially social ills. ========== Originally published 1922. This book is in the public domain where copyright is “Life+80” or less, and in the USA. |
