Problems with Sigil in Windows 8.1
Hi there
I reactivated my old laptop w. Win 8.1 and Sigil don't run - regardless which version I try to install. It says:Error info: Critical: OpenThemeData() failed for theme 16 (WINDOW). (Das angegebene Modul wurde nicht gefunden.) Sigil version: 1.4.3 Runtime Qt: 5.12.9 Compiled Qt: 5.12.9 System: Windows 8.1 (6.3) Architecture: x86_64 The same in all Versions from 9.10 up. What to do? |
No clue. I don't have 8 or 8.1 to test with. But I know we've had some users on 8.1 using some of those versions in the past. So perhaps a recent Windows update? That "theme" stuff looks like what's mentioned in some of the latest Windows 10 updates.
|
We don't mess with any of the OpenThemeData Windows API stuff directly, so it would likely be an issue between Qt and Windows. But the range of Sigil versions you've tried also include a wide range of Qt versions. So the likelihood of it being a Qt or Sigil bug is highly unlikely in my opinion.

That error message is from Qt itself.
See: https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.gi...3ac4997d757d94 Which went in in Qt 5.6.x and still exists in Qt 5.12.x here: https://github.com/qt/qtbase/blob/5....owsxpstyle.cpp |
But I know we've had some Sigil users on 8/8.1 with Sigil versions that definitely utilized Qt5.6.x (and I suspect higher) in the past. So if it's a Qt issue, it's got to be one that's based on certain conditions being met on individual machines, no? A particular Windows theme that can be changed?

Thanks people!
I'd have an old WindowBlinds installed on that laptop and forgotten about it. Now I've made an occlusion for Sigil and all is well. thx again - without your comments no solving of the problem! cheers |
Thanks for reporting back. We'll be able to tell others to exempt Sigil from any "Skinning" software should others report similar issues.
