@FDPuthuff...The CustomCleanerPlus plugin will thoroughly clean imported html(saved from a Word doc as "Web Page Filtered") and it also directly cleans out epubs as well(only epub 2).

You could also perhaps use the HTML2Epub plugin which also cleans the html file in exactly the same way as the CustomCleanerPlus plugin but additionally converts the html to standard epub format as well. Up to you really.
