Charging the Kindle 1
I recently pulled a first generation kindle (with keyboard etc) out of an old box. It showed no signs of life, so i ordered a new battery and it arrived today. I popped it in and it worked right away! i loaded a bunch of books on and am super happy with it. However, I do not get the charging LED when the usb cord is plugged in. I do get an amber LED when it is connected to a computer in USB drive mode, but I am not sure if this is charging. I am wondering if I will need the original barrel style charger to charge it, or if I need to charge it in USB mode. If anyone has any information on this, or anywhere I could find the correct charger, it would be much appreciated. The amazon listing for the charger is no longer available and I can't find it anywhere. Thank you!

I ended up solving this, so I will leave my info here if anyone else has this problem as I couldn't find any info. So the first generation kindle (slanted keyboard) cannot charge over its USB port. To charge it needs the barrel charger that came with it. I was only able to find this on the internet by searching for Foxlink, which seems to be the company that manufactured it. I may have gotten lucky with the ebay listing, but at least this gives a direction to look. I will attach a picture for reference.

I'd like to ask, why did you buy a Kindle 1 and a battery when you could have bought a better Kindle with more updated firmware, faster, touch screen, better contrast screen, working battery, etc.

But, I have to ask, why do you always try to change the subject instead of admitting you made a mistake? |
