By odd coincidence, this book is set in the same area as "Mackinac and Lake Stories", and in much the same period. It begins with the expulsion of the Mormons from Beaver Island before the Civil War, after the assassination of King Strang, King of Beaver Island; and then moves forward 20 or more years to the appearance of a young man who proves to be the son of King Strang, and the turbulent events which followed.
Whether the son of King Strang was an historic figure, or pure fiction, I cannot say. Not in the usual style of Bedford-Jones. |
