Well, for me it killed the wifi. No way to connect to anything. I'm on Kobo Glo HD.

Ripplinger 03-12-2020 10:19 AM

I just tested my Glo HD and wifi connected just fine when I enabled it. I never use it though, I always sideload books and firmware, so wouldn't have been any loss to me.

It didn't change anything about my wifi - as before, sometimes it connects on the first try when I tell it to sync, sometimes it doesn't see any wifi networks and I have to start over.

The only reason I mentioned all that is because rosalita is stuck using an older version of Calibre because of her old MAC OS, so she won't be able to use the newest version of Calibre to handle the new series setup. She'll be stuck doing it the old way. And since she mentioned she never noticed a change, I thought there's a good chance all the settings weren't correct to get it done.

And you were quite right! I was finding the series information in Calibre useful on its own for knowing which books to next send to my ereader, but I had not changed the settings needed to send the series info to the Kobo. Your very clear directions should have me set up "tickety boo" as soon as I can get back to my laptop. Many thanks!

As @Quoth said, it is probably the publishers fault. They supply the metadata to Kobo, and Kobo display it. Kobo might not be allowed to fix it. It will depend on the contracts they have.

In this case, there is a problem. I looked up the series in the Kobo store. The books come from at least two different publishers. It looks like "Inspector Ian Rutledge" comes from Random House and "Inspector Ian Rutledge Mysteries" comes from William Morris.

Having said that, there is a feedback link on the Kobo store. Report the problem through that. I don't know if they will be able to change anything. But, one thing they might be able to change is the id used for the series. The Series tab is based on an internal id, not the series name. The two series names above appear to have different ids (click on the series name in the store and look at the URL). They might merge the ids so that it will appear as one series, though with different series names depending on the book. In the Series tab, I think it will use the series name from the book with the lowest series number.

Different publishers! I didn't even think of that. I'll take your advice and send Kobo feedback about the series I have that are like this — it can't hurt anything and it might help folks who can't or don't want to use Calibre. Thank you for the fine detective work.

You'll want to update to 4.20.14622 and then look in the patch thread for that firmware for the patch you want. If you cannot find it, ask in the patch thread.

Hi
After having "Series" added to Kobo with this latest updated, "My Books" now looks like this http://imgur.com/iaNvVgm

Is it possible to rename this "header"? I assume in English it would read something like "Books | Authors | Series | Collections", but for some reason in Portuguese, it is translated to "Coleção | Coleções " which is the same word in singular and plural; this is rather confusing because I never know which one is each.

Does anyone know if is it possible to rename these? Would it require some patching?

There is a later firmware. 4.20.14622 is the current version and there is a thread about it.

If I select "Portuguese (Brasil)" as the language, it is "Séries". Is that more correct?

It can probably be patched, but, I don't remember seeing anything about patching the translations.

And Jon, it hasn't changed.

Yes, it would be more of a direct translation from the english version. Any idea on how to change it without changing language from "Portuguese (Portugal)" to "Portuguese (Brasil)"?

Replace translation

try

If I haven’t mixed up translations, it should work

Yes, it's built-in to kobopatch. You just need to install the Qt Translation tools, specifically lrelease, then add the qm/ts files to kobopatch.yaml in the translations section.
