[Closed] Calibre 4 Ebook Reader -- Don't Show "Next," "Previous" Triangles
Please keep the screen as clean and uncluttered as possible. No need for those added triangles to get to next and previous pages.
Thanks! Nicholas Kormanik |
The triangles only show up if you mouse over the margins and they are there so people know you can click on the margins to turn pages.
|
But the margins are huge.
The triangles are definitely not needed. Even for a 1st Grader. At least allow for option to hide them. Distraction and clutter. |
The margins are configurable to whatever you want them to be, the default IIRC is a pretty modest 20px. And dont make the mistake of assuming that just because something is obvious for you, it is obvious for everyone.
|
Come on.... Give the option of hiding those triangles.
Do yourself, and others, the favor. |
Okay, so, exactly what do I need to put into the CSS style page to reduce those margins to, say, 1px?

Just a suggestion, that I, and surely others, would greatly appreciate.
As said by Kovid himself, an objective of the new e-Reader is to get rid of clutter and distraction. |
calibre is open source, you can either create a private fork, or submit changes.
Have a look to see if the triangles are in the <install>\app\resources\images folder, if they are, then you could override them with transparent triangles in <config>\calibre\resources\images. Otherwise set the left and right margins to a small number - like 1. Or revert to 3.48 and Hide the controls - then you'll have a minimalist viewer, with no arrows and a scroll bar. BR |

Considering that the triangles appear only when you actually hover over the margin, I am not really interested in an option to hide them. That said, I wont refuse a patch that adds one.
|
Please???
If you would be so continuingly kind. (I like that.) Yes, fantastic program. Incredibly happy that Kovid and company have come out with version 4. Was anxiously awaiting the release. Really. Truly. Fabulous. Now..., if someone can write a quick patch to get rid of those triangles.... I ask with great humility, deference, respectfulness. Only a kindly suggestion, mind you. |
I think the 'triangles' are not an issue at all. Unless someone forever kept the mouse hovering at the edge of the page.
Who would really do that during the entirety of reading a page or a book? |

Since some folks seem to find the triangles very annoying, I tried setting the margins to 5/5/5/5 pixels to minimize "wasted space". I've attached an image of the triangle when I hovered on the right margin.

:bulb2: If Preferences>Page layout->Max Width could be set as a percentage (e.g. 90%), and Left/Right margins were set to 1, then one would get visual margins without the arrows. I'm not sure that configuring max width and height in pixels makes sense on a variable size desktop viewer. BR |
