A chivalrous Scottish gentleman finds himself in the Balkans and meets a mysterious woman, clad only in a shroud. Is she one of the undead, or not? Naturally, he falls in love, and is prepared to put up with her, even if she turns out to be a vampire. After solving this mystery, there is a lot of action and adventure as our hero contrives to establish a lasting peace in the Balkans.
