Yes. This firmware should work on any kobo ereader. The answer to your second question can be found on my kobo firmware page. Basically: If the 7th digit of your serial number is a 2 you have the second version, otherwise you have the first version.

Thanks, that's great to know.:2thumbsup

After my dazzling display of density in another thread, I decided not to risk applying any patches today, but thanks to this thread I am now running 4.11.11982 on my "one hour out of the box" H2O2 v2, a big jump from the 4.8xx it came installed with. Thank you all!

This firmware on Glo HD

I patched this firmware to my liking and it runs fine on my Glo HD. So far no bugs or errors that bothers me.

What I like most about this firmware is the possibility to rotate the screen to landscape.

Is it possible with this firmware on a KAO to select landscape or portrait orientation without patching? Read a while ago there is a trigger you can enter into the kobo configuration file which may enable this? Same as enabling MyWords by adding MyWords=true?

Not as far as I know, but I can be wrong.

Try DevSettings -> ForceAllowLandscape. I haven't tried it myself, but it might work (I always try patching first).

Thanks geek1011!
You mean in the config file I make a new category named [DevSetttings] under which I put the following: ForceAllowLandscape=true ?

The above doesn’t do anything unfortunately.

I rather not start with the patching because I only want the landscape reading option and I read the patcher only works on windows and Linux, I’m on a MacBook.

Try DeveloperSettings.

And, it works on macOS, just drag kobopatch.sh to a terminal and press enter.

Thanks for the advice, it works brilliantly!! After putting in both lines I got an extra icon on top. When I tap it I can choose landscape or portrait orientation and it works. Exactly what I wanted on my Aura One

Hi, I'm the only one who could not make firmware 4.11.11982 work on his KA1? It was very slow, almost impossible to use, I lost the sign of books and no longer worked the wifi :wall: (but that is perhaps a peculiar flaw of my kobo, although the 4.10.11655 had very mitigated, almost solved).

Did I do something wrong? I followed the instructions to apply the patches by disabling them all on 4.11.11982 and I added the KoboRoot.tgz file to the .kobo folder.

I tried however later to apply the patches to see if I had the landscape to read the pdf but nothing. In the end I was forced to a factory reset. Luckily Kobo Desktop exists because the Kobo refused to enter my account (it's the first time that Kobo Desktop is for something).

A strange thing is that it asked me to authorize ADE on my device to open a file without DRM (really without, not one to which it had been removed) and prevented me from reading it, while a book borrowed from the library, of course with ADE DRM, opened it without problems, but obviously losing the mark.

At this point I do not know if it was the fault of the firmware 4.11.11982, of ADE or mine that I do not have to do strange experiments instead of reading ... :book2: :bookworm:

Now I see that for the landscape I should write a couple of lines on the configuration file but at this point I'll wait for the official firmware for the KA1 to arrive and then apply the patches.

ps: thank you for patches especially geek1011 :thanks:

Yes, having that in the config file will add the rotate icon to the top menu bar for all devices. It is a little different to the Forma. For the Forma, the icon is only there when reading. So, you only have the landscape/portrait choice when reading. For the other devices, the choice is there all the time and whichever you choose is active all the time. So, the home screen, library lists, settings and everything else is in landscape mode. They work, but are by no means perfect. I suspect that putting the option in a Forma will also activate the landscape mode for the non-reading screens, but I haven't tried.

And it's about time this was posted as I couldn't.

I couldn’t run this version on my KA1, either. 11980 works though.

Did you copy the KoboRoot.tgz file from the kobo-update-4.11.11982.zip file to your KA1's .kobo directory or did you run KoboPatcher with no patches enabled and copy the generated KoboRoot.tgz file from the out directory to your KA1's .kobo directory to update the firmware? The first is correctand will do a firmwar update, the second should only be done when your Kobo ereader is already running 4.11.11982. Using the patcher generated KoboRoot.tgz to attempt an update would be "interesting" for certain values of "I love doing factory resets".

Yeah for me it’s perfect because I have no problems with the other screens being in landscape as well. It’s all about the reading :D
But I agree it’s far from optimal for the home screen. Even the lock screen is in landscape now. It’s all working but it seems to be the portrait mode layout stretched out.

I understand you had to keep quiet, hopefully more people get to use this now it’s out in the open.

The second choice, the wrong one, now I understand. I have to unzip kobo-update-4.11.11982.zip and copy KoboRoot.tgz as it is. My doubt were that there are much other files in kobo-update-4.11.11982.zip, I think I shouldn't care of them?
Thank You for Your answer, may be I will try again later.

Let's say: I learned to do factory reset
