Except Manybooks is offline and has been so for the past two or three days. Does anyone know what's up?

The server at manybooks.net is taking too long to respond.

It wasn't when I made my post...

The last time this happened, it was what appeared to be a DOS attack. The server was up and running, but unable to respond to requests. Neither the site owner nor I could think of a good reason why anyone would go after the site. Certainly no one claimed responsibilty or made demands. I thought perhaps someone had made a typo in the IP address they fed to a botnet, and Manybooks got slammed by mistake.

I have a query out to the site owner, and we'll see.

I have never come up with a good way to convert lrf to any other format. Even the calibre program which can emit lrf doesn't seem to offer an option to convert lrf to anything else. {sob} This is one reason why I bought a Sony reader, even though I adore my Kindle -- some of the books posted here are just not available in any other format, and I'm too lazy to research to find the original text or html format and convert everything that I'm interested in.

But -- this book is available at Project Gutenberg and I found a scanned copy at Google Books. I downloaded the files from PG and snagged the illustrations from the PDF at Google Books and I'll compose a MobiPocket version for both of us.

Will post it later tonight or tomorrow.

See LrfTools.

I did manage to pull a copy from ManyBooks, shortly after that address was posted. I'm sure something you convert by hand will be much nicer!! But, on the other hand, if you PM me, I could probably send you a private copy of ManyBooks's version.

It works, but I wouldn't say "great". See LRFTools on these forums for a better solution.

I have this one, and its results are mediocre at best. But I'm definitely going to take a look at the LRFTools as suggested by igorsk.

And I haven't forgotten that I was going to work on The Agony Column from the PG files. It's just that work and RL got in the way.

I read it this weekend -- it's a fun story!
