Theme Suggestion Thread
May we start the next set of nominations?
|
That's a fair question, Jon, as people should be able to plan.
People are welcome to make suggestions for themes; several have already been made in various threads and at some point (soonish) we'll pull them together. I think the idea is that we'll set up a slate for the following four months from April through July and then another four months would take us to the end of the calendar year. We'd like to stay flexible especially this first year, as we see what works and what is less successful; we'd also like to remain open to input from new members. All of that said, a request and a notice: We'd like to continue with themes for this year, so please avoid genre nominations; we'd like to avoid repeating categories from either club for this year, also. And, there's going to be wee bit bit of benevolent despotism involved in setting the slates at least at first; input is highly important but we'd like a balanced slate as well, so there's going to be an element of judgment involved in determining the calendar. :) As always, people are welcome and highly desired to post in the Welcome thread (or elsewhere) with suggestions and requests. Let's make this the club everyone would like. |
I have an idea for a theme. Books made into a movie.
Another idea is the first book in a series where the series is finished. |

How about going with my second suggestion for the next nomination and we could start the nomination now as to be able to plan/get on the OD waiting list (if need be).

I have an idea for April. Books released in the month of April.

More ideas based on the book's title...Numbers, Single word, Weather, Animal
Try this.. Author debut where the author has at least 5 book. Books set in a fictional land Books set in outer space Books by an author who died in the 2000's. Large books (that would have to be done in advance) For September, Back to School (Books based in or around a school) Another is Young Adult labeled books |
Well, if we're throwing up theme ideas, here are some phrases that seem (to me) to offer possibilities in a similar manner to the starting three:
Laughter is the Best Medicine (or something like this that offers a strong suggestion of comedy without necessarily being tied only to comedy) Money Talks (books where business and money play a major part) Courtly Behaviour (this offers both legal and royal themes) Nature's Own (books about nature or animals or whatever) Eastern Speculation (not sure about the phrase, but I'd like a theme that encourages a selection from Asia) |

I think that once the discussion thread goes up, we should start the nominations. |

This thread is tagged as being the MR Book Club. Can this be fixed to show as the New Leaf Book Club?

As for theme suggestions, I'm sure we all have some, but there's always: Crunchy and Goes Well with Ketchup -- books with dragons! |
I'd be glad to change the thread title, if Jon doesn't mind. Unfortunately, we don't have a New Leaf prefix as yet.
