I third Sylvie and Bruno. It's a very good book. Didn't imagine it as Fantasy at first.

We just need one more nod for Green Rider. It's available via Overdrive and even if you cannot get it there, it's only $2.99.

Sylvie and Bruno is also available for free in audio from USF's Lit2Go HERE. Lit2Go's audio is better than any of the librivox versions IMO.

I will second Swords and Deviltry, I have never read anything by Fritz Lieber but I have heard good things about Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.

I will third Green Rider, never heard of it but sounds fun.

And I will second The Magic City, again, I have heard of Nesbit but haven't read anything by her before.

Thank you! This looks a great resource and I'd never heard of it. I'll definitely give the audio a listen, although I think it would be worth downloading the MR version as well, for the copious illustrations. :)

I'd like to nominate "The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany.

This has been on my TBR list a while. Reviews on Amazon are admittedly mixed, but it does seem to have some historically significant literary value.

From Amazon:

Quote:

All fantasy and horror fans owe it to themselves to read Lord Dunsany (1878-1957). The sword & sorcery genre was born in his early stories, and high fantasy was indelibly transformed by his novels. His profound influence on 20th-century fantastic fiction is visible in authors as dissimilar as Neil Gaiman, H.P. Lovecraft, and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Lord Dunsany's best-known novel is The King of Elfland's Daughter (1924), wherein the men of Erl desire to be "ruled by a magic lord," and the lord's heir, Alveric, ventures into Elfland to win the king's daughter, Lirazel. Their story does not progress as a reader weaned on the diluted milk of formulaic fantasy would expect; and the novel's unique journeys and events are matched by Dunsany's rich and lyrical prose and by his contagious intoxication with the magic and marvels of both Elfland and our own world. --Cynthia Ward
Available as an Amazon ebook for 99 cents.

Is the print length in the first post for Sylvie and Bruno correct? Amazon says it is much shorter?

CRussel 11-24-2017 06:05 PM

Looks about right for the complete version -- actually includes two books, Sylvie and Bruno and Sylvie and Bruno Concluded.

However, note that the link in that first post to the PCML ePub version appears broken. Instead, use this: Sylvie and Bruno Complete.

Thanks, Charlie. I've fixed the link in the post.

It's possible the long print length as with the large file size is due to the illustrations.

What was nominated for the club, just the first book or both books?

We'll need to add the second Lit2Go audiobook link in that case. Sylvie and Bruno Concluded.

issybird 11-26-2017 08:57 AM

Swords and Deviltry, The Magic City and The King of Elfland's Daughter each needs one more nomination to make it to the poll.
