Jon's out of nominations so I will go ahead and third Alice, Let's Eat. I have requested it from my library and hopefully they will deliver ...

I second Breakup. I've read books 1-6 and should this one win, well that would be convenient.

I'd made and posted ePub & KF8 versions of England, Their England.

ePub: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3584476
KF8: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3584477

These are hand crafted from the HTML found over at Faded Page. The ePub they have posted there has gaps in the text that are not in the HTML.

Thanks, Jon. I added them as sources. :)

Your version is now on my Voyage as well.

Is this gong to come down to a two book vote? Come on people two more nods for Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! to get at least three books.

issybird 09-23-2017 09:21 PM

I'm going to engage in a little rantiness. I thought of a good nomination, but when I checked the price, it was $11.99 on a 70-year old novel! That's insanity. It's available on OverDrive, but OD libraries are all over the spectrum in terms of holdings and there's the availability issue, also. Similarly, I love Alice, Let's Eat, but it's another backlist book that's overpriced, IMO, and with the same culprit: PRH. Nothing new here, but it certainly gums up book club nominations'

CRussel 09-24-2017 02:29 AM

I'm with you on this. 11.99 is too much for a 70year old book.

JSWolf 09-24-2017 05:55 AM

So given that we have only two fully nominated books and one is too expensive, it seems like there's only one real choice.

John F 09-24-2017 06:33 AM

I'll second The Milagro Beanfield War.

This is $9.99 in the US. There's no good reason for it. Gotta love how publishers are now gouging the public. This used to be a MMPB (mass market paperback). But in order to raise prices for the pBook and the eBook, they stopped printing a MMPB version are are printing a different paperback format and are now charging $14-$15 for the pBook. This is how they get to gouge the consumers on an old book.

And yet a book you nominated is $11.99. Used to be a MMPB.

And yet a book you seconded is $9.99.

From an author who, so far as I know, was the first person to use the word "booger" in a daily newspaper column: I nominate The Worst Class Trip Ever (Class Trip, Book 1) by Dave Barry.
Quote:

From Goodreads:

In this hilarious novel, written in the voice of eighth-grader Wyatt Palmer, Dave Barry takes us on a class trip to Washington, DC. Wyatt, his best friend, Matt, and a few kids from Culver Middle School find themselves in a heap of trouble—not just with their teachers, who have long lost patience with them—but from several mysterious men they first meet on their flight to the nation's capital. In a fast-paced adventure with the monuments as a backdrop, the kids try to stay out of danger and out of the doghouse while trying to save the president from attack—or maybe not.

• Amazon US ($11.95 audiobook; looks like they're trying to undercut their own Audible): https://www.amazon.com/The-Worst-Cla.../dp/B00VGDQYN2
• Audible ($13.95): https://www.audible.com/pd/Kids/The-...ook/B00VGE08TW
