InDesign CC 2017 epub export question

I just exported two Epubs from CC 2017 reflowable and fixed layout, in the export panel for reflowable there is the option to check to embed fonts. So in the reflow able when I check that and validate the epub I get the fonts could not be encrypted warning. So I republish and UNCHECK embedded fonts and the Epub has no problems.

Now on the Fixed Layout I notice there is no option to embed fonts so when I publish the file and validate I get the same warning that there are fonts that cannot be encrypted. How do I export and clear this problem?

Ralphie:

Well, let's start with basics, if you don't mind?
  1. What fonts, specifically, are you calling/using in INDD?
  2. Do you know how the bits for embedding are set, in those fonts? Preview? Print? Embeddable?
  3. Are you using fonts in INDD that are on your Skyfonts, or some other subscription plan font manager? Typekit, and so on?
  4. Are you saying that the reflowable ePUB comes out with the entire font embedded in it? Was that font on your computer, somplace?

What were your setting for font encryption, in the print version?

Do you actually need these fonts? If not, don't embed them.

Jon, love:

That's not what he's asking. I understand your perspective, but he's asking a technical question, not for advice on the pros and cons of font embedding. Right? Right.

Ok, in that case, I suggest to download Charis SIL and try to embed that. I know there should be no issue embedding that. If that works, then it's the fonts. If it doesn't work, then it's something to do with the settings.

THERE. That's an excellent suggestion, Wolfie. Hopefully, ralphiedee will give that a go.
