Osgood Bradbury: Born ??: died 1931
Excerpt Several years have elapsed since I formed a resolution to write out the most important events, and give to the world some of the scenes in my life; but circumstances have prevented me from carrying out that resolution until the present time. And I would not now begin such a task if I were not fully convinced that the execution of it would benefit my own sex and shed some light on the paths in which they may travel while sojourning on this earth. The great poet of nature hath said, 'The web of our life is of mingled yarn, good and ill together; our virtues would be proud if our faults whipped them not; and our crimes would despair, if they were not cherished by our virtues.' Be that as it may, I have lived out a large proportion of the time allotted me in this world, and must pack up and prepare to leave these earthly scenes ere many moons shall wax and wane. |
