I seem to be doing something wrong, or something is not working.

I use my desktop Windows 10 computer as my main computer, for email and the rest. I got an email from you a day or so ago on my computer, opened it on the iPad, downloaded a file on to the iPad which left me with an icon with Beta underneath it.

Tonight I got another email, and opened it on my iPad. I didn't really understand the instructions and messed around a bit, and now have a greenish icon with books on it on my iPad screen. I opened calibre on my computer, and opened connect/share and started a wireless connection; then tapped the CC icon on the iPad and the connect, and was able to download an ebook from calibre to the iPad. Is that what I should have done?

But I can't open the ebook. I know the ebook works since I have it open on my Sony and can read it.

What should I do now?

I haven't been involved with the iOS project so I cannot provide any definitive help. But in hopes of helping move things forward ...

What does it do? Are there any error messages? Does a reader app open?

What reader apps do you have installed on the iPad? I don't know the current list of "working" reader apps. Steven told me a few weeks ago that iBooks works.

How do you try to open it? When you push the "Read" icon in the detail view, it shows a lot of app to send it to. Where do you send it? For me, if I send it to Marvin or iBooks, it says the book is in the library, and it is ;), but it doesn't open it directly, you have to open it from the library of those programs.

I've had some problems sending books from calibre to CC. I think it is related to the numbre of books, but I'm not sure. I've sent a log.

pwalker8 07-16-2016 05:09 PM

I have certain books which causes CC to crash when I try to download them. So far the rest of my books are fine. I've downloaded several hundred at a time without issue. The problem books are books that I bought from O'Reilley and some books that I bought directly from the author's web site. I sent in a log the first time it happened.

Of course, it's an alpha, so some things aren't working yet. I'm not quite sure if they want reports about the obvious stuff or not. I have downloaded books and opened them in a epub reader.

Thanks for the responses

Chaley #2. When I touch the green calibreCompanion icon on the iPad screen a new screen opens showing three small hollow bars on the top left; on the same level on the right side there are four squares, A on top of Z, an up and down arrow, Connect, and three menu lines. Touching the menu brings up Settings and Email log.
Below the above icons there is a hollow box containing a magnifying glass and Search.
Below that is the cover of the ebook, with its author and title.

Touching the cover brings up a new screen with the ebook cover
below that is Read and a green oval/white circle, 16th Jul 2016, and a grey circle with with a white X,
Below that is a list of the metadata, and
Below that is Added to Calibre, Added to CC, Updated, Path, Format, File size, and Rating - all on separate lines

When I touch the ebook cover nothing happens

This is a longer post than I thought, so I'll do the other replies separately.

When I press the read icon the circle just moves to the other side and becomes white. I do not have a choice of readers. I have iBooks and Bluefire reader on my iPad.

It seems from your comment that I must have erred when I was trying to download the app - perhaps from the very beginning. Unless I get any other suggestions I'll try deleting both the Beta icon CalibreCompanion icon, and see if I can start over.

What is the best way to get help directly from the calibreCompanion for iBooks team?

What you are doing is just marking the book as read. Try tapping the icon of an open book(top right of the screen). You'll then get options on which reader to copy book to. The book will not automatically open, just be imported into the library of the app you choose. I'm guessing direct open will be added later.

They will be here.

My son tries to separate his work and non-work lives, something that I am not good at.

I have successfully connected to my iphone 6 and was able to send several catalogs without issue. However, after deleting these catalogs off of the device, I tried to send some books without success. Every time now, I get an error communicating with device with the following log:

Code:

I sent Steve an email as I wasn't sure how we were supposed to be communicating about the alpha/beta (some companies don't like public discussion), but since we have this thread I've copied/pasted the email below (got an auto response from Steve that he's away for a few days).

CC appears to connect fine via wireless device connection. When sending books (I tried three, then two, then just one) the app blinks off the screen and an error pops up in Calibre (see below). App is still "running" in the background on the phone (as seen when double clicking the home button) [hope that makes sense]. When trying again the wireless device connection in Calibre must be stopped and started again otherwise the app reports that Calibre isn't responding.

Also noticed if my phone screen goes black (sleep) while I'm selecting books to send, the connection to Calibre drops and things need to be restarted (app, Calibre). Dropping the connection may be the expeted behavior? I don't remember it happening on Android, but my tablets generally aren't set to sleep as quickly as my phone screen.

Thanks, but tapping the cover which appears after I've tapped the green icon just opens another page with the three small bars to the left, and the ebook cover below that. Tapping that cover opens a screen with the Book cover and the green read icon below that to the right. Tapping this book cover does nothing at all. No response, no change.

It sounds like you're trying to tap the book cover when viewing the book info? Have you tried tapping the top right icon in that screen. It looks like an open book.
I'll try and add a screenshot.

They released a new version this morning which may have fixed the issue (apparently triggered by no publication date in the meta data). It fixed the issues that I was having.
