Aura HD initially designed by Sony??

I just read this somewhere online from a random user...

----------

That (Aura HD) was a one-off limited production run of a device Kobo hadn't actually designed, it was a Sony device that Sony dropped and Kobo was able to acquire dirt cheap.

---------

What is he/she talking about? Is it true?

That would be interesting

Link to source would be nice. I see ereaders prtotypes online each year from related shows. Company making eink skreens and company designing kobo readers resently formed partnership.

I read it on Reddit. It is a comment posted by a random person so not from a reliable source. Was just wondering if anyone here read from a reputable source that this is correct. I have googled and have not read anything of the sort so I'm wondering if that person just made it up.

This is not true. Aura HD was probably the Kobo-est of Kobo devices. It couldn't have been any more Kobo.

Source: I worked on the ereader design team at the time.

There's your problem right there.

There were all kinds of rumours to that effect when it first came out. Do a search in the Mobileread forums here and you can find the details. Short version is that it was generally refuted, including, IIRC, by a Kobo rep.

Sony did NOT design the Kobo Aura HD hardware.
