PUSSYCAT AND DOGGY TALES
by Edith Nesbit (1858–1924)

First published 1895.

--------------
Edith Nesbit Bland, English author and poet, published approximately 40 books for children under the name of E. Nesbit. Her innovative body of work combined realistic, contemporary children in real-world settings with magical objects and adventures; and influenced many subsequent fantasy writers.

This is a collection of charming short stories, told by cats and dogs. These creatures are not “cute” or “adorable.” They are funny, crotchety, vain, selfish, good-hearted, silly, clever – why, they’re just like people!

-----------------
Notes on the text:
The meanings of some words have evolved over the past century: some words, which were completely innocent then, have changed to more vulgar usage.

The "Unedited" version leaves the original text intact, with the exception of the edited book title, which I kept to prevent confusion.

The Child-safe version has been edited for young readers.
Characters in this version are herein referred to as Pussycat, Kitty, or Cat. Individual edits are not footnoted, as I believe this kind of attention would negate the purpose of the editing.
Edits were made to the book title and titles of stories 5 and 6. Edits were made in Story 2, para. 3, 4; Story 5, last para.; Story 7, para. 39, 44, 49; Story 8, para. 3.

----------------------
Several glossary annotations were added. Punctuation and italics have been formatted. Chapter heads are cross-linked to dynamic Table of Contents. Due to copyright restrictions, the illustrations by Lucie Kemp-Welch (1869–1958) were omitted. Embedded fonts are used for titles and drop-caps, and for decorations.

------------------
Give these stories a try -- I'll bet you didn't know what your pets are really thinking...
.

EDIT: By request, uploaded an "Unedited" version.
Previous downloads of the "child-safe" version: 10.

couldn't you upload the "unedited" one like you did with this one? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=263884

Um, I guess I could. It will take me a couple of hours, I am at work right now.
