2016 Book Club CATEGORY Nominations
2016 MobileRead Book Club CATEGORY Nominations
In 2016, we will have two fixed categories: January's Second Chance (a second chance for all the losing books of 2014) and July's Free-For-All in which any book in any genre may be nominated. Help us select the remaining 10 categories that the MobileRead Book Club will use in 2016. The nominations will run through Monday night at midnight EST August 17 or until 30 categories have been fully nominated. The poll will then be posted and will remain open for one week. • For this special nomination session, each member will have 6 votes which you can use to nominate categories or second or third the categories others have nominated. • In order for a category to be included in the poll it needs THREE NOMINATIONS (original nomination, a second and a third). • All members of MobileRead are welcome to participate, even if they have not participated in the book club in the past. I’ll begin by nominating-
Mystery This is plain mystery and doesn’t include non-mystery thriller, suspense or crime books. The reasoning is that I love real mysteries (usually a murder or puzzling situation, to be solved by clues) but am not as big on the rest and so would like this to have its own category. Thriller, Suspense & Crime And the yang. Travel & Adventure For the explorer in us all. |
I will nominate Science Fiction as my first and I still need to decide on my others.
|
Let's sea:
I'll Second: Thriller, Suspense & Crime Then introduce two nominations: Inspirational fiction Fanfiction Fan fiction has become more popular and widespread since the advent of the World Wide Web; according to one estimate, fan fiction comprises one third of all content about books on the Web |

I second MYSTERY
I nominate HISTORICAL FICTION I nominate HORROR I nominate HUMOR I nominate CLASSICS I'm reserving one vote. |
Quote:
|
I'll second historical fiction and fantasy.
|
I'll second Classics.
I'll nominate Humor and Biography and Memoirs. |
I third travel and adventure
I third classics I second Biography and Memoirs. |
Quote:
Travel and adventure is a very good example of categories that do not go together. An adventure story does not go with a travelogue at all. Thriller, suspense, & crime is three categories that don't fit. A book about an art heist has nothing to do with thriller or suspense. So please redo those two because they don't work. |
I third science fiction.
I third mystery. I third fantasy. |
Nominate History (factual not fiction)
Nominate Science (factual not fiction) Third Biography |

Folks: Watch me like a hawk to make sure your choices are accurately reflected in the first post! You can tell how far I've updated the post by looking at the "Reason for editing". I've already caught myself making at least one error, and the day's just begun! |
I second Science (although it will never win).
|
With my second of my six votes, I third Humor.
|
I will third Historical Fiction and nominate Romance and Contemporary.

These won't go anywhere, but having just read Blood Bones and Butter I was reminded of how much I love books with a food theme (not cookbooks). And there is such a growing list to choose from! So, I nominate Food books. I'd also like to nominate Sports Fiction. |
I'll third science.
|
I nominate non-fiction.
I nominate modern fiction* * Modern Fiction Definition – What’s the best definition for the modern genre? Books in the modern fiction genre are made up of stories set in modern settings. They have technology and events that are close to or pertain to the current culture of the lives of their main characters in a “today” setting. The modern genre would also include new and struggling social concepts and/or thought processes (such as accepting homosexuals into the military, gay marriage, women’s rights, or abortion). |
Second History.

I'll third history.

I nominate Short Stories
Also, Short Story Anthologies |
Second Short Story Anthologies.
|
I'll third Short Story Anthologies. (1 - I'm keeping track of my nominations)
|
Can we make it such that the short story anthologies do not contain any stories that are part of a series?
|
^That's a reasonable request. Most anthologies from a single author don't usually contain such things, but we could always skip given titles from discussion or spoiler anything involving those.
For me, I'd have a hard time not reading the story in the first place. I am a thorough reader when I start something. |
I want to know more about our members here so I'm going to nominate:
Our Favo(u)rite Books: nominations are books that are one of the nominator's favourites with no genre or topic limiations (2) |

That's just my 2¢. |
I'll nominate Award Winners (fiction)
|
I'll second Contemporary.
|
Second Horror; always a fun category.
|
I'll third Horror and second Romance and Non-Fiction.
|
I nominate-
Originally Non-English I like this category because it gives us nominations from across the globe. I'm interested in inspirational fiction if it's nonreligious. I'm not big on a month for Christian-themed nominations but otherwise I really like the idea of inspiring books. ETA - Because the nominations are moving so quickly, I nominate- Inspirational Stories (nonreligious) This can also be either fiction or non-fiction, but it should be a narrative. |
