Hi,
I'm Stéphane Bataillon, the coordinator of Sigil's french translation since 2011. Now, i'm recruiting new translators to finish the last version and i've an idea to improve the Sigil impact and use : a new logo, more simple and efficient. There is a first draft. What do you think ? Have a nice day.

Sorry. The enthusiasm :-)

No problem!

You can upload a larger image as an attachment. Just don't put it in the message itself.

Would that go on a webpage, or a splash screen?? I don't think I've seen a logo, except for the "S" used for the icon/thumbnail. Can someone post the one we currently use?

It is on the old Web site
https://code.google.com/p/sigil/

(And I still like the one that uses the current 'S'. )

I don't understand the penchant for always changing a Logo.
True, some no longer reflect the product line (Heinz 57, Wells Fargo...), and need to be updated. Others significantly changed when the product line they represented remained.

I'm fairly aesthetically challenged when it comes to graphic design. I have no idea what looks good (or bad) in logos/icons. I vote, "yes, change it" (or "no, don't").

eschwartz 05-11-2015 12:15 PM

I vote "no change" unless someon can explain why it might be needed.

What utility is served by changing the familiar icon? Is there some form of benefit we are aiming to get?

Or is it just change because "because"?

Why is the "GIL" in a bolder typeface than the "SI"?

The current script style on the Sigil Logo is cognate with the meaning of the word Sgil - a symbol of magic.

The highly embellished style with lots of curlicues, spurs etc is widely used in certain fantasy genre's - google 'sigils' for examples.

@sbataillon - I can't see any similar connection between the Sigil brand as a word and your proposed logo. Nor how it will yield a distinctive icon.

So from me it gets a :thumbsdow - but I'm a card carrying iconoclast so what would I know :D

The University of New Hampshire, which has claimed it is broke at least since I entered as a freshman in September 1950, recently spent several hundred thousand dollars adopting a new logo. Not surprisingly, nobody likes it.

Generally: Why? Sigil isn't advertised anywhere a brand identity would make any difference. I'll bet most users never even knew there WAS a logo.

Specifically: Why the emphasis on "GIL"? (Come to think of it, does "Sigil" have any meaning? Stupid Idiots Generate Incomprehensible Language? Covers a fair proportion of published eBooks, I suppose! :-)

Yes, "Sigil" means a sign or a seal.

exaltedwombat 05-12-2015 08:30 AM

Even less reason to emphasise the IL then.
