New "Official" Sigil Web Site

I've updated the Google Code page, the source repo and the dev blog. But for those of you who don't follow any of that I want to announce I've setup an official website for Sigil http://sigil-ebook.com/. It has a lot of information that was scattered in multiple places to hopefully make it easier for users

It's something I've been wanting to do for quite some time. I've had the domain for a few years now but I've never gotten around to actually doing something with it.

New release announcements (and any other Sigil announcements) will be put on the main page. They will still be cross posts from my blog but only Sigil related things will be on the Sigil web site.

Finally, I want to keep the website simple (like my blog) but I'm open to suggestions for improvements.

 great idea, couple of suggestions

Make links embedded in text bold or something, my wonky eyes don't see them too well.

A direct link to the github Releases page would be useful (maybe a Useful Links item in the Home, Donate... menu ?)

Provide an RSS feed, Wordpress has a built-in RSS widget.

The information from the landing page on goglecode should be the first thing you see when going to the new website.

It would also be nice to have a permalink to the latest version of Sigil, to be downloaded from the Sigil website.

And it would also be nice if a slab serif was not the font of choice.

@user_none. "New "Official" Sigil Web Site"

Excellent!

I've added a lot more info including where to find binary releases (changes source to get). Added info about the checkum file and Mac Code signing.

I also rewrote the about page to include the history of Sigil.

The contrast between the fonts, the background, and links is very poor. I would suggest you fix all of that because some people with not so good eyesight might not be able to easily read the site and/or find the links.

Not going to happen. Only a limited number of wordpress themes are available and I like the news print (if you've seen my own blog) look best.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Sigil logo displayed somewhere, but even without it ... looks good. Simple and to the point.

Great news - single source to find information on Sigil.

Good font and excellent font size, but I agree with JSWolf about the contrast. The text colours used with a white background should be as dark as possible. Will Wordpress allow you to change the text colours at all?

Also, how about a download link for the Sigil manual? Based on some of the threads here in recent months I think this is very necessary.

It's under the support section. Last paragraph. I've been working on it so I might have added it after you posted the comment. I'm only linking to the location not the files themselves so I don't have to update the link ever time we update the file.

The Penscratch theme does supports italics, its creator uses it to differentiate links on her blog - some links, not all though.

The "Follow" widget requires an email address. I prefer RSS links, like the old Making epub happen blog had. I do all I can to keep my mailboxes free of notifications. Seems to me that the social media moguls, and the politicians who benefit from their largesse, are doing all they can to kill RSS.

Thanks a ton for the upkeep on sigil and it's ecosystem!

I agree that the current theme is a bit hard to read. Your personal blog (as linked from the sigil homepage) is much easier to read for me, personally.

Great resource, thank you.

But whatever possessed you to choose trendy grey-on-white over readability for body text? And the links are quite hard to see.

It's possible to modify a Wordpress theme. I'm sure you'd find it a trivial challenge.
