The larger the device, the less I want a case on it. When I had a Kobo HD, I often used it without the case, then put it back in the case when I was done reading. With that nice back, holding it caseless was much more comfortable. I have a case or two for my Nexus 7, but they are put away. The GraphGrip is better, for me. A black hair band, stretched diagonally across the back, makes a nice place to slip in a finger or two for one handed use. |
I like the Kindle Voyage magnetic Origami case. (though I would prefer a more book-like cover.)
It's easy to pull the Kindle out of the case when I sit down to read. I have large hands so the case isn't really too bulky, and I'll keep the Kindle in it if the situation warrants, but I like the feel and balance of the Kindle without a case. |
I have used cases for all my reading devices over the years. I had a hard case for my palm pilot. I have a pretty good soft case for my Sony PRS-500 (good enough to put it in my backpack when I go backpacking). I have battery cases for my iPads and iPhones (Kudo battery case for the iPads, Mophie battery cases for the iPhones). The only time I've broken a device, was when I put my iPhone in my pocket without the case, and it fell out on the concrete walkway, eventually becoming unusable.

I use a semi-rigid sleeve that I picked up at a dollar store for transporting it, otherwise it goes unprotected. The basic problem with covers is that they tend to be expensive and rarely do anything beyond claiming to protect a device, without mentioning the type or amount of protection. For all we know, these are designed as purely cosmetic accessories without any testing going into the degree of protection.

I've got cases for everything and they're normally kept in them unless I'm using a particular one at home, then I don't bother because of the extra weight any case adds; that, for some reason, annoys me when I'm reading.
They are all in different brands and styles, depending on what was on-sale and rated well when I was in the buying mode. Some came with covers as part of a package deal when I bought the device - the Nook HD came with the B&N Nook HD cover, and the Fire HDX came with a Belkin Chambray cover. I just bought this one for my PW2: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It was a dollar cheaper when I bought it. :D |
I used to have this bright red case for my Kindle but in the end, decided to leave it as is. It's less bulky, even if I have to be more cautious about handling it. I usually have the covers back on in case my niece/nephew would look into it.

And I generally want a case that can double as a stand, for easy reading while laying on my side in bed (I read portrait, and have the reader beside me horizontally) |
I use a hard case, a sort of shell for storage purposes but when reading I don't want no cumbersome cover anymore.

Caseless on my NST (after having a case for my N1E)
Case for my Nexus 7. Mostly 'cause the screen is more smudgeable and theoretically more prone to scratches, in my experience. For me it depends on the device and how I anticipate handling it. |
I used a sleepcover on my KoboGlo for the first year of owning it and liked the protection it gave. However, after a year or so the battery drained every time I closed the cover. I've been using a slip cover since with no problems (I mainly use the Glo at home) but I will investigate a new sleepcover at some point.

I read some on my H2O when I did not have a case for it. Now that I have a case, I prefer using the H2O with the case.

I just use a protective bag (handmade) to carry it around since I put a lot of things in my backpack. When I read, I prefer holding it caseless. The PaperWhite "skin" just feels so good. As for fingerprints and stuff, I clean her up once a week. :D
