Open with...

Hi,

can i really only have one entry in the "Open with..." context menu? Sometimes its sufficient to open images with a light-weight program like xnview, but sometimes a heavy weight program like PS(E) is necessary to work on images. Right now i have to select each time the program

Can you post a picture or expand on your explanation?

On my Mac open with just opens to the Applications directory allowing you to pick any any application installed on the system. You should be seeing the same thing on other OS's. What you're probably seeing is it's opening to the last location you opened an app. Just navigate to another application's directory and select it.

I cant choose two programs to have two choices with "open with". Wen i choose the second program, the first one disappears. win64 sigil 081

You are correct, only the last used program to open that specific type of file is remembered.

My experience has been that under Windows, when you right click and select Open with if the program you want is NOT displayed, select Choose default program, use the Browse option to find the program you want, and then ensure that the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file checkbox is NOT checked. This will then add the program to the list of programs displayed by the Open with selection.

That does not apply to the Open With function in Sigil of course. You can select the program without issue of course and the next time that program will be available for quick selecting. However, the OP wonders why only the last program is remembered and not more. For example sometimes you want to open an image in GIMP and sometimes in XNView.
I am fine with the current way of working, but I can see the added value.

If you have embedded audio and video the need to have multiple tools available is probably greater than with embedded images.

For embedded images 95% of what I need can be done with Irfan View, only occasionally would I reach for PS or Gimp. But for audio and video I might use 2 or three tools on the same file consecutively. That said I'll probably always prefer to edit the audio and video outside Sigil and add the result to the book.

On Windows I think the folder presented for program selection is the one in which the current instance of Sigil is located - so if your running 64bit Sigil you're unlikely to see folders for your 32 bit or portable programs; this may confuse some users.

I list of previously selected programs would be nice, I suggest with the most recently used at the top.
