Book catagories

What types of books do you read:

It's too bad it can't be multiple choice. I'd have checked off a few different genre's.

I read so many different categories that it is impossible to pick just one. And it would have been nice if Science Fiction and Fantasy had been separated. Reading one does not mean you read the other.

I've checked a genre I've read a lot, but want to distance myself from. I hope this poll attracts many more people.

It won't because it's not multiple choice.

I can't ever find books to read when I search by genre, so I tend to look in either "general fiction" or I search by specific title, author, or series. (Which is a category missing from the poll.)

My single biggest frustration with shopping for ebooks is there is no way to browse a random assortment (similar to what I do when I wander around a bookstore) -- when I am forced to browse by first choosing a category, I nearly always come away with nothing.

It seems to me that every eBookstore that I've used has very poor search capabilities when it comes to finding an eBook to buy when I have no idea what I want. This includes Amazon, B&N, and Kobo.

Every one of them could use revamping to make searching easier. For example, Kobo has searching by newest release yet it also includes pre-orders and I then have to wade through many pre-orders to get to the actually released eBooks.

Part of the problem is that the publishers choose which categories to list their books under. They want as many people as possible to see their book, so they want to have them listed in several genres with sometimes weak reasons.

That should be "type" rather than "types" since you can only choose one, which makes it impossible for me to answer.

And the OP misspelled Politics as Polotics, but I imagine that was an accidental slip of the finger as i and o are right next to one another on the keyboard. :)

I'd respond to the poll if I could pick the genres that I read - there're way more than one!

That's not the only misspelling.

Two other major flaws here besides not being multiple choice. One is Science Fiction and Fantasy are two separate categories and it need Other,

Yapyap 09-17-2014 06:33 AM

I picked Science Fiction and Fantasy as with only one choice, that's probably the main one, but of course only after responding I realised that out of those choices, I should have picked "Foreign" - 100% of my reading material in the last ~10 years has been "foreign", i.e. originally written in a language and in a country that aren't mine.
