Kobo Collections advice
 

I've been using calibre to manage the books on my sony ereader which I am replacing with a kobo

Couldn't get the kobo to work on my PC but I have a lap top. Installed calibre there & said it was a kobo I had, copied the calibre library over via a usb stick.

I have tags in the metadata data for the books but when I transferred them over there were no collections set up on the Kobo

I'm not sure if I've missed a step :blink:

If anyone could advice I would be grateful

You first of all need to load the plugins

Kobo Touch Extended and Kobo Utilities (not sure if you actually need this one, but I added it anyway)

I can email you instructions as I have a word doc for it, but you need the plugins first.

I have an aura not a touch though does that matter?

I have an Aura too. You don't google for the plug ins

Just open Calibre, go to Preferences/Get Plugins to enhance behavior (head for the jigsaw piece) and select

Kobo Touch Extended
Kobo Utilities

Click install. (I think the plugins are already within Calibre, you just need to install them)

A straight calibre installation has everything needed to handle the Kobo devices. The extended driver can be used if you want to send books as kepubs instead of epubs. The Kobo Utilities adds lots of handy things.

If the collections are not being created, it usually means the configuration is wrong. The most common reason is that on the "Sending books to devices" page of the preferences, metadata management is not set to automatic. But, have look at Quick Guide to Shelf Management with calibre 0.9.1 & above for full the details on the configuration.

All sorted now. Was able to get it to use tags as collections :D
