Special note for iOS7 users: The first time that you connect your iDevice to your computer after updating to iOS7 you will see a dialog that looks like this: Click Trust. Once you have confirmed that the connected computer is trustworthy, you shouldn't see that dialog again. You need to confirm this dialog before Marvin XD will work. Special note for Linux users: You need to use a system encoding that supports UTF-8. See this post for more details. If you have problems:

Calibre crash with MarvinXD plug-in
Calibre won't start for me with the Marvin XD plug-in installed. I am running OS X 10.8.5, & Calibre 1.3.0 (for Mac). Here's the error I get.
Code:
calibre, version 1.3.0 |
I just got the same error as VRH. On OS X as well. I don't know how to delete the plugin since calibre won't start up.
|
You can start calibre like this in Terminal.app
/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre --ignore-plugins which will allow you to remove the malfunctioning plugin. |
I get the same error and I'm on Windows 7 and Calibre 1.3.0
ERROR: Startup error: There was an error during calibre startup. Parts of calibre may not function. Click Show details to learn more. for those using Win7, add the following to your shortcut for Calibre:
behind calibre.exe" add -ignore-plugins remove or disable Marvin (under preferences - plugins, type in Marvin in search box), close Calibre, then remove the " -ignore-plugins" from Calibre shortcut and everything works again... I love Marvin reading app, but this should have been tested more thoroughly... Cheers / Mop |
Have you installed the latest iOS reader applications plugin? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=215624
|
I do have both plugins installed.
(I was going to suggest that it might be because I installed them both at the same time, but I just uninstalled Marvin XD, verified that the iOS plugin was installed, then re-installed Marvin XD and got the same crash) |
@evanbernstein Thanks for checking it out. Investigating.

Same error message. Windows 7. iPad Mini (iOS 6.1.2). Calibre 1.3. Marvin 2.0.
- Already had iOS reader applications plugin installed, but needed to update it. Did that. (but didn't restart Calibre) - Then installed the Marvin XD plugin. Restarted Calibre. - Got same error message By the way, how do I start Calibre without the plug in? I added " -ignore-plugins" to the shortcut command line, but it's not working. Here's the full command line, but I obviously got something wrong with the syntax. Can someone help? "C:\Program Files (x86)\Calibre2\calibre.exe" -ignore-plugins Thanks. |
Two dashes before ignore
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Calibre2\calibre.exe" --ignore-plugins |

Ahhh. Thanks for the quick reply. Knew it would be a simple oversight. |
Is disabling plugins different in portable version ? Using
"C:\KINDLEpad\Kindle Calibre\calibre-portable.exe" --ignore-plugins and "C:\KINDLEpad\Kindle Calibre\calibre-portable.exe" -ignore-plugins on Calibre 1.0 I keep getting the same error as before. (Assuming I have to add the words in Target: "C:\KINDLEpad\Kindle Calibre\calibre-portable.exe" -ignore-plugins and not in Start in: "C:\KINDLEpad\Kindle Calibre" |
Apologies to all. I was a doctor's appointment and unable to upload a fix until now.
Please update to version 1.0.1 which should solve the problem everyone's having. G |
