A new Kobo reader
|
Interesting! Do none of the beta testers who post here get one to try out?
Some comments: -I like the ridges on the Glo power slider. It makes it easy to switch on with fingernails. (On a side note, the fingernail in one of the photos in that link is creepy). The new power slider is smooth. -I don't know if the "thick-in-the-middle tapered to thinner edges" design makes it easier to hold. I would have thought making the edges thicker would be better. -Can't wait to see the price. -I hope the cover makers don't punch a hole in the cover where that logo is. It is slightly more incognito though. |

It looks like the bezel is flush with the screen? And a little shinier than other kobos?
The back also seems textured, ...guess that's because of people saying the Aura was too slippy. |

And here we finally have the code-named phoenix. Looks nice. The touch screen is no longer ir-light based, probably capacitive. From the code in current firmware, the screen should be the same employed in the kobo Glo.
|
The Glo is not capacitive, but the bezel and screen are closer together than the Aura (I have both). I don't know that they are changing to capacitive for this one. No one really will until specs on this feature are released.
FWIW, the FCC specs are not always reflective of things in the ultimate release either. The Aura was supposed to (according to the FCC documents) have the ability to use taps on the back to turn pages. This may have been planned, at one point. It might also explain why the back cover is plain, untextured, plastic. It's sure not there. |
Only bought my aura recently and wondered if I should wait or just go for it. Glad I bought the aura as I love the larger screen, my main reason for getting it, this looks to be a standard 6" screen so I'm very happy I committed to the aura now, no regrets
|
I'm planning to buy an aura HD, but now I don't know. It seems this one is still 6", I'd prefer a bit more, but then I always disliked recessed screen implied by the IR touch technology. The back seems better on this one too, nicer than the plain plastic one from the Aura. Anyway I'm surprised there's already a new reader, Kobo is very prompt to put out new models.

As an Aura owner, I'm not sure if purchasing this new device would be considered an upgrade or a downgrade.
I just know I'll end up getting it regardless. Sigh... |

Joking apart, there would be an NDA in place for this type of thing - I certainly have one for anyone who wishes to beta test the iOS app - and that would likely include clauses preventing you from discussing the device anywhere. |
I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader, I musn't purchase a new reader

Aura ordered and now I don't know if I wouldn't cancel? Be or not to be?
