Nansen, Fridtjof: In Northern Mists (Illustrated).v1. 27 May 2013
2 Attachment(s)
The Norwegian polar explorer, oceanographer and diplomat Fridtjof Nansen also proved to be an adept historian; in this work he examines how knowledge about northern Europe, and later on the lands of the North Atlantic, has been documented by civilizations since the earliest times. Of particular interest are the chapters on the Norse exploration and settlement of Greenland and North America. This is a scholarly work, with exhaustive references to other reseachers as well as to the limited source material that exists. Nansen had originally planned to document polar exploration up to his own time, but he never found the time to complete the remaining volumes.
------------------------------------------------ IMHO, the PG version suffers from poor layout; I've tried to improve it. Also fixed the problem with two orphaned footnotes, and have embedded Gentium Plus fonts so that odd letters are shown properly. Lastly, I've combined the two volumes into one. |
Thank you - I think my husband will enjoy this book!
