Leverson, Ada: Love’s Shadow, v.1, 24 Feb 2008.
1 Attachment(s)
A novel of 1908.
(The first in The Litle Ottleys series, but can be read on its own.) There are two threads in this novel. The central story is that of a young married woman who finds that her husband’s earlier infatuation for someone else throws a shadow on their marriage. The other thread is the story of how her friend, Edith Ottley, adroitly copes with her pompous and irritable husband. (In later novels Edith becomes the central figure.) Ada Leverson was a close friend of Oscar Wilde and, in places, her writings have a similar wit and sparkle. Her novels also reflect on the position of married women in Edwardian society. |
Thanks for the Ada Leverson books. She is another of my favorites.
