1 Attachment(s)
Paul-Henri Thiery, baron d'Holbach (Dec., 1723 - Jan., 1789) is generally accepted as the first modern writer of openly atheistic works in Europe and was among the more radical philosophers of the Enlightenment. His most famous book The System of Nature published in 1770 is often called The Atheist's Bible. In 1772 he published Good Sense Without God, or Freethoughts Opposed to Supernatural Ideas as a summary of his principal ideas from The System of Nature. D'Holbach's works were published anonymously or under pseudonyms to avoid persecution.
