The first of four (4) volumes of the collected writings of Thomas Paine. Best remembered for Common Sense (in this volume), Paine perhaps more than any other person helped the colonists to understand that they could defy the King and that they had a right to defy the King. There was far more to Paine than just one pamphlet, many of his newspaper articles built on and amplified the basic themes brought forth in Common Sense.
