Wharton, Edith: The Glimpses of the Moon, v.1, 5 Feb 2008.
1 Attachment(s)
A novel. (1922)
After the First World War, Edith Wharton’s writing changed as she began to explore the way women lived in the new setting of a Jazz age. Susy Branch is a relatively poor American on the fringes of the international set of super-rich people. Imprudently, she marries another relatively poor person, claiming that this is only a short-term marriage. Both are presented with alternative prospects: a rich heiress and a lord. Will either of them come to realise that money isn’t everything? The source was a PG text file, which was in a poor state. I have restored the italics (which were almost all missing), checked every emdash (because quite a lot were incorrectly given as hyphens) and restored all the accents. I have also added curly quotes. |
