I'll third The Looking Glass War and second The Wolf Gift.

Third shutter island

A lot of great choices here!

Definitely going to be a hard month to vote on. We need some more nominations, I've run out of mine. Some of the regulars aren't here.....

When I first started editing this thread Sunday morning, I could hardly keep up. Then today, the only new book nomination was by me. We still have three to go. Is no one thrilled about thrillers?

Thrillers are awesome.

OK, I'll bite and with my last nomination suggest The Spies of Warsaw by Alan Furst. I've read other thrillers by Furst and he's probably my favorite writer in the genre these days. Here's the Inkmesh link.

Synamon 02-21-2012 08:29 PM

Boo, you've have already done my public domain idea for this category (The Thirty-Nine Steps) so here's my best shot:

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

Quote:

What enriches this well-told tale is the opportunity to live inside the minds of both the crime fighters and the criminals as each struggles in a prison of pain and seeks, sometimes violently, relief. Clarice Starling, a precociously self-disciplined FBI trainee, is dispatched by her boss, Section Chief Jack Crawford, the FBI's most successful tracker of serial killers, to see whether she can learn anything useful from Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Lecter's a gifted psychopath whose nickname is "The Cannibal" because he likes to eat parts of his victims.

I will nominate Mystic River by Dennis Lehane.

I don't know much about it, but I remember the book received high praise when the movie came out.

I will nominate The Ninth Directive by Adam Hall.

I read this a year and a half ago and loved it. Suspenseful from start to finish.

You singled out In The Woods as dark? I think it sounds interesting and it may seem a bit dark but I don't see how it seems any darker than many of the other nominations? Thrillers are usually dark, no?

ETA - Scratch that second for The Snowman. I had read the thread but forgotten it was a later book with the same character and author as another nomination; I was just going by reading the blurb in Tom's nominations post. LOL at the fact coming to me the minute *after* I post. :p

Synamon 02-21-2012 09:12 PM

I'll third The Snowman, since someone recently gave me a paperback copy of it.

Ah, oh well, the best laid plans and all that! I tried to edit fast very soon after I posted but I guess I took too long wording it.

OK, keep me in for a second for The Snowman so as not to diminish Synamon's third.

WT Sharpe 02-21-2012 09:54 PM

I'll second Silence of the Lambs.

Food for thought.

odiakkoh 02-21-2012 10:05 PM

I'll third silence of the lambs. I don't think I've read that one though I know I read the other 2.
