You have many lists (<ol>) with the "start" attribute (<ol start="...">), which is not allowed. Remove the attribute and it should validate.

How do I remove the attributes

With a text editor. Perhaps use Sigil, a free download ePub editor. How did you create it in the first place?

It was a word document for smashword.com. I also now just did a search on google and found a suggested solution of removing all numbers from lists in the document in word. Is this a viable solution

How would I know, but it is worth a try. The root problem is: you can easily fix the epub, but you can't re-submit the epub to smashwords. So you have to figure out what change in your Word document will produce a correct epub, and resubmit that. Sometimes that process is... opaque.

That will fix it.

I seem to have similar problem. I used msWord document to feed through smashword's meatgrinder. Here is my dilemma.

Nine of my 12 guides pass the epub test. One of them I fixed yesterday only. Below are the error messages that I get with other 3 guides. Any idea what do these mean!

Ad 1. One of the images thinks it is a png, but it is not. Try to find out which picture it is and reinsert it.
Ad 2. You have table in your word document, with some specific width settings. Set it to auto-width, that will probably solve it.
Ad 3. See 2.

Tables will not always render correctly on a device. Simple tables can/will, but soon you will have issues.

The meatgrinder procedure of Smashwords is really bad. I can't believe the amount of errors that it produces. Smashwords really must allow ePUB's to be uploaded instead or additionally to Word documents.

I use jpeg images for tables because smashwords don't allow tables. So there are no tables as such. But I appreciate your hint and will work on Ad 2 and 3. Thanks for all your help.

could your image have the wrong extension?

There must still be a file being referenced as a .png file. You need to fix the reference to file and change it extension. Then you need to erase the file that has the .png extension. Uploading a .jpg won't fix anything unless it is referenced correctly. It will only cause another error that you have a file that is not referenced.

I appreciate your response Dale. The png file refers to images and all my images now are jpeg. I made sure to create and reinsert each image. So at least in theory, there should be no pig file. The frustrating part is how to find ping file which it refers. I am sure it may be some where in the document that I am having problem finding it. Thanks to you and others for hints and for all your help.

Open the file in Sigil. Or use 7-zip to open the file and look inside. The original file with the .png extension is likely there somewhere and the reference to it inside the document is also still there. I take it that this is some word conversion?
