Pen examples

I am undecided which replacement pen to get and wondered if those that who have after market devices would post an example of what the stock stylus looks like compared to the replacement.

Use the phrase 'A quick brown fox jumped over the lazy white dog.'

There is really no discernible difference in the writing, just in the way the pen feels in your hand and the ease of writing.

I agree with Cheyenne. Although I would say that if you want the feeling of writing with a finer-tipped pen, then the Motion L-series pen (which I also have) would give you that sensation (compared to the pen that comes with the eDGe). But as you can see from Cheyenne's sample, the actual thickness of the script would depend not on the tip of the pen but on the eDGe setting that you use.

Many thanks. Other than the ability to hold the pen, does it allow better writing? The screen seems too slick for the default stylus, thus making my writing quite messy.

'...feel...'

As in less slick on the screen?

I have a screen protector on the reader side, made for the Kindle DX, the screen is a bit less slick that way. The pens make no difference, but the stylus that comes with the edge scratched my screens in short order.

Does the screen protector make the eInk screen less readable?

cheyennedonna 12-26-2010 12:50 PM

No difference.

That looks like it, except I have the one with no eraser - since the eraser is not functional on the edge. I bought it direct from Motion Computing.

I don't have large fingers, but the default stylus tends to wiggle around while writing, making for more messing writing, plus the strain of trying to grip the stylus firmly. With a regular Wacom penabled pen, the pen is gripped firmly in my hand, allowing the fine finger muscles to manipulate the pen with finesse. The result is neater and more comfortable writing due to the greater control offered by a larger easier-to-grip pen.

Yup, that's the one I have. It comes with several replacement tips (in case you might have second thoughts after considering the price) and a right click button that does not function on the eDGe.

@cheyennedonna
Which screen protector? The ones I looked at on Amazon said they were all junk.

I got the 3 pack from M-Edge; unfortunately no longer available. They are matte and slightly textured and so far the 1st one is still usable although when held at an angle you can see a ghost of writing marks. Maybe just a temporary out of stock or redesign.

Gunnerp245 12-27-2010 01:55 PM

Many Thanks!

Scratched mine as well.
