Leonid Nikolaievich Andreyev (Russian: Леонид Николаевич Андреев, 21 August [O.S. 9 August] 1871 – September 12, 1919) was a Russian playwright, novelist and short story writer. He is one of the most talented and prolific representatives of the Silver Age period in Russian history. Andreev's style combines elements of realist, naturalist and symbolist schools in literature.
Herman Bernstein (September 21, 1876 – August 31, 1935) was an American journalist, writer, translator, and diplomat. Herman Bernstein was born on September 21, 1876, in Vladislavov (Russian: Владиславов, German: Neustadt-Schirwindt, Yiddish: Naishtot) at that time on the Russo-German border to David and Marie Bernstein. In 1893, he emigrated to the United States, where he completed his education and married Sophie Friedman on December 31, 1901.
