Goodbye, Christopher Priest.

11:21 AM by Dr. Drib in E-Book General | News

The great novelist and science fiction writer died Feb. 02.

Time to reacquaint myself with his work, which I read years ago. I remember reading The Space Machine: A Scientific Romance, and (I think) The Inverted World.

Time to visit some delusional alternate realities...

[New York Times] Will Books Survive Spotify?

03:20 PM by orebmur in E-Book General | News

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/13/o...algorithm.html

»Spotify may have made it easier than ever for us to listen to an enormous trove of music, but it extracted so much money in doing so that it impoverished musicians. Now the company is turning its attention to books with a new offering. It will do the same thing to writers, whose audiobooks Spotify has begun streaming in a new and more damaging way.«

Libraries: ‘We can’t do this on our own’

01:14 PM by shalym in E-Book General | News

It looks like the State of CT may be getting ready to challenge publishers on the pricing scheme for e-books. They're going at it from both a consumer protection angle and from state contract law angle, since library budgets come from municipal budgets. Should be interesting, if anything comes of it.
