Is there any way for Calibre to reset the last page read on a non-DRM mobi format book on the Kindle 3? (ie Baen free library)

Try deleting the .mbp file for the ebook from your Kindle. This should reset it to "new" (so this will loose any bookmarks you set). If you are on a PC you may need to check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Otherwise the .mbp file may be hidden.
