Price Cuts for Kobo and Aluratek Readers

Good news for those of you looking to venture off the beaten path of e-book readers!

Not a bad deal for readers (Kobo:$130 and Aluratek: $99.99), but with the price of the kindle and nook, I don't see these being snatched up at the cyclic rate.

Where is this from? It's still $150 and $120 on Borders.

Did you pick this up from Gizmodo? Per that posting, this is only (at this point) at the US Borders store and the Kobo discount has been available for a long time. It gives you a $20 coupon, not $20 off the price of the reader itself.

Yeah... sorry- I had a link to Gizmodo, but it didn't post right for some reason.

Apparently it's a price cut, as of today:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2368507,00.asp

The e-reader price war continued Tuesday when Borders dropped the price of its Kobo and Libre e-readers to $129 and $99.99, respectively.

The Kobo was previously priced at $149.99, while the smaller Aluratek Libre eBook Reader Pro sold for $119.

The Borders price cut isn't really a price cut, though. Borders has sold the Kobo at $19 with $20 store credit since the day of launch.

Still, advertising a lower price is a rather good idea. The Kobo is a very nice device -- simple, attractive, easy to use, easy to purchase for. But at $10 less than Kindle 3 WiFi it's attributes are slight -- but they number native ePub and library access.

I purchased my Libre last week, at Kmart it was on sale for $99.99. It's a nice little reader, a good beginner E-reader. Maybe later I'll get another E-reader but for now the Libre suits my needs just fine.
