I'm Julee. I'm a prospective ebook buyer, but am getting more and more overwhelmed as I shop, review, and see what's out there. I'm a casual reader, maybe a few books a month. I like to read at night before I fall asleep, and want a reader to take with me to work to kill the downtime. I'd like to have a device to surf the web, email, and entertain me in those sort of ways as well, but I'm not sure that's out there yet, save the pricey ipad.

Anyway, I guess I'll just look around and see what I see...

Welcome to MobileRead, Julee.

You'll find lots of opinions on different devices in the "Which One Should I Buy" forum. But, I don't know if there's an e-ink reader that will really fit your needs. They're focused on reading with other activities secondary at best. The new Kindle coming out on August 27th will do much of what you want, but it's no iPad.

The Pandigital Novel or one of the new Android tablets might be closer to what you're looking for. I expect to see a lot of inexpensive tablets coming out to compete with the iPad, so you should have a couple of devices to choose from in the next few months.

Good to have your company, Jewellofdenial. It does take a while to find your way around and, with relatively new technology, things tend to develop almost by the day. But when you belong to a community like this, keeping up becomes a lot of fun and more simple to understand as you learn more and more. Very best wishes. Neil

Welcome, Julee! You'll find a lot of helpful information here. E-ink devices get most of the attention here, but you might want to pay special attention to the sections dealing with smartphones. That might be a good solution if you want an all-in-one device that will handle ebooks, websurfing, email, music, and games.

Everyone,

Thanks for all your "welcomes." My bonus doesn't come till sept or oct, so I have till then to decide on a device.

I sure with I had had one this weekend on vaccation. I love to read, but hate going the bookstore (overwhelmed and pricey) and library (overwhelmed and potentially pricey for late returns). I ended up grabbing a lame paperback from a bookself at a coffee shop (without replacing it for the "exchange"
