The wildfire has a QVGA (240x320) screen which is going to be your biggest problem with e-reading. There are several good e-reader apps (there's a thread covering them already), but lack of pixels and pixel density will require you to use a larger font for readability and in turn have fewer words per page. Are there no devices in your area with WVGA (480x800) screens? For example, the HTC Desire.

I have a Desire, and the screen is literally a thing of beauty (though it does have some issues in bright light if you don't use auto-brightness). For ereading, you really should consider higher resolution than QVGA.

I think you mean "higher resolution than QVGA". WVGA is very nice for ereading, especially on a smaller screen (3-4") where pixel density gives you a high PPI so that smaller fonts are very legible.

I believe the Desire is actually less than the Wildfire, or maybe my info is outdated?

Desire is a higher performance smartphone than Wildfire, and also costs more by at least 100 Euro for unlocked versions. Another plus, Desire started updating to Android 2.2 at the beginning of August in Europe.

Perhaps in Sweden the "Wildfire" name applies to a different phone? Googling, I found this link, which claims a QVGA screen. But that's their UK site, so perhaps the Sweden offering is different.

No, Wildfire is Desires "little brother", and the swedish one is the same as the UK version. I have a Wildfire and I think the screen is ok for reading, especially with the Kindle app, but for longer reading I still prefer my Cybook Opus.

Is there a huge difference between a Wildfire and a Desire? The price difference is significant.
