Readers, booksellers, authors, etc are telling publishers what they want, what they don't want, and what they want to see changed. Come give your opinions because a bunch of them are actually listening. |

I haven't seen a shread of evidence they are listening.

On the contrary, I've been engaging with them. Some are a little defensive, but they are listening.

I'd guess they'll listen to the people/arguments that suit them, and ignore or rationalize away the rest. There's already a lot of communication out there .

If they're listening, then why can't I get someone to accept the file listing all of the errors which I found in Tor Books' ebook edition of _Space Cadet_?

Just out of interest, what would be the legality of creating something like a PAR file that would correct the mistakes in a commercial ebook and hosting it on your own website (or on here)? The only problem I can see would be in breaking the DRM. |

I used to spend energy telling the industry what was wrong. Then I realized it wasn't my industry, and it had very little to do with my actual reading and writing habits. Now I just go to Kindle and Smashwords and let my readers be the boss!
Good luck, though, David. Scott Nicholson

Publishers are listening...
... to the champagne corks popping? ... to the sound of one hand clapping? ... to their evil twin saying everything is ok? ... to their lawyers saying everything is okay (oops, I repeated myself)? ... to an uncomfortably loud ticking sound? So, ok, hand us an easy target and we'll take a shot. I hope, David, you are right and publishers ARE listening. It's not that complicated: start thinking like a consumer, and stop thinking like a publisher pre-2007 ... and figure out how to monetize the goods and services the consumer wants today. You have a great resource: the best and most desirable author's and alive and, in some jurisdictions, dead for up to 70 years ... surely there is a way to make money on that .... |
