Sideloaded books are syncronized "over the cloud"?

Hello everybody, I'm interested in buy a kobo h20, I'll use it with books bought from Kobo and also with book bought from other sources (mainly Amazon), and I'll load the book acquired from different sources into H20 using Calibre; my question is, these book "sideloaded" using Calibre are syncronized "over the cloud" in the kobo cloud so they can be read from android or windows euipment, using the kobo apps?
Thanks in advance for your help

No. Sync only works with books bought from Kobo.

However if you set up Calibre correctly you could download the books to your device via the internet or home wifi.

sorry but this is not clear to me; I'll set up calibre to "receive" the book from different sources, convert them to kepub and then send the books to kobo h20 via usb connection; is there a different way to sideload books?
thanks

You can sideload your books by downloading them to your reader via WiFi from a Calibre server or a Dropbox account etc., you don't need to use the USB cable. However these books won't be in the Kobo cloud, they won't sync reading position, etc., only books bought from Kobo can do that.

Sorry, but basically what Geoff said. Calibre can be configured to run a server and provide your books. Depending on how you set up your router you could connect via any internet connection from any where in the world as long as your calibre server is running and the computer is connected to the internet.
You basically log in via a self defined user name and password from the browser on your kobo, via the ip address of your internet connection and a correctly configured port. if you hit the calibre side of the forums you will find instructions on how to do this. I am not very good at explaining the how its down stuff. And someone here may offer more detailed help.

Yep, basically:
  • You can run a calibre content server, via the Connect/Share dropdown, using "Start Content Server".
  • This will setup a local website at
    Code:
    your_computers_ip_address:configured_port
  • You can type that in to any browser from a computer on the same WiFi network, to access a web-based catalog of your calibre library, complete with search, and download links for the ebook formats.
  • You can connect this web address to the outside world using port forwarding, see here for a walkthrough: http://www.howtogeek.com/66214/how-t...n-your-router/
  • Some services that you can use to have a website name instead of an ugly IP address: http://lifehacker.com/the-best-free-...dns-1561556205
  • Now, you can go to the website you setup, and see all your books, from anywhere in the world. download them to your ereader, tablet, PC/Mac, etc. -- anything with a browser.

Remember when setting this up, under Preferences ==> Sharing ==> Sharing over the Net, you can set a username and password to prevent random people from finding and downloading your books.
You can also set the server to start whenever calibre is started.

Also, current versions of KOreader, running on Kobo (and maybe Kindle) support accessing the local calibre server over Wifi.

Luck;

I keep my Calibre library in Dropbox, which is always available - no need to always keep your Calibre PC running. Just be a little bit careful about accessing your library through Dropbox when Calibre is running and also accessing it.

Thank you for the detailed instructions. Is the calibre plugin that exports epubs as kepubs on the fly compliant with this means of transfer? Or can one transfer only plain epubs or previously converted kepubs by this method?

From what I remember the content server does NOT handle kepub format at all. I do think though that davidfor had a patch that would allow content server to handle them.

The calibre server will serve the kepubs, but the Kobo browser doesn't like the file extension that the server uses. Changing it from ".kepub" to ".kepub.epub" fixes this. The patch I have does this. There is some discussion of it here

Don't be so fast with the thanks.

I checked in the change last night, but Kovid rejected it. He thinks it should only do this for the Kobo browser. I agree, but was hoping to get away with it I need to add a test for the useragent. I think I have a handle on what is needed, but, I need to do some more work.
