Dutch translation of your book.
Let me first tell something about myself. I'm tehKitten, 16 years old, and from the Netherlands. My English is really good, I converse every day in English, write some things in English, read English books, watch movies in English (without subtitles off course ;3), and a lot more. I've translated a few things so far, some descriptions in Apple's app store, a bit of reddit.com, assignments from school, and more stuff like that. Now I want a bigger project, something that looks nice on my portfolio and such ![]() So.... Have you written a novel (in English) and want to have a Dutch translation AND want to help me to learn, and experience what it's like to translate a book, tell me, and I'll do it for free*! I prefer a simple novel, because it's going to be my first time. It isn't going to be as perfect as a proffesional translation, but this is a little bit cheaper. ----------![]() There is one thing you need. That is to be a MR user. You must have an account registered for more than 6 months and the post count must me above 100. This is because I want to translate for the MR users, and not some random freebies hunter on teh intrawebs. You will probably understand it. ----------![]() If you finally want me to translate your book, this is what I'm going to do: 1. Read it [READ] 2. Asking questions about the novel [QTNS] 3. Discuss the grammar related problems. (Like polite words.) [GRAM] 4. Discuss the translation of the names [NAME] 5. Translation! [TL] 6. Proof reading by another Dutchman. [PROOF] 7. Fix the mistakes [FIX] 8. Done [DONE] ---------- Ok, because I stopped using my hand as soon as I felt the pain has helped. Now, a week later, it feels good enough to translate again! ![]() ---------- Quote:
*About that free, if the novel is long (which it probably is) I would like a small fee for the work I've done. But only after I'm done, and you are satisfied. I don't want much, maybe something like $10 or $20. That's still a lot cheaper than ~$0.05 a word (prices like $800 are considered cheap for a single book translation, to give you an idea.)If I translated your book, I maybe get some money for it. To let you know where that money goes, I'm setting a goal. My goal is going to buy a kindle. I want a kindle, so I can buy books from amazon. So it isn't going to be wasted on some food, games, or other crap. This is just to let you know where it goes. [$0/$190] there was a price drop ._. (Note: I will translate a lot, so this is a long-term goal.)

tehKitten, that's a great idea!!
I'm sure you'll get lots of takers. In fact, I'd like to put my book in for consideration! Maisy May is about a two teens in Australia struggling with religion, expectations and who they really are. It's a novella - about half or a third the size of a normal novel. The language used is fairly simple, I think. |

Ok, I 'bought' Maisy May on Smashwords with the coupon, I'll start reading now.
![]() It seems a good start, there are about 30.000 words, so with 3.000 a day, it should take about 10 days.

I meant the translation, I get a minimum of 3.000 a day. ^.^"
The most I've done in one day were 10.000 words, but that's just too much for one day. I think this is handy for translating nomesque's book, clicky. Another thing to learn! Last edited by tehKitten; 06-06-2010 at 07:12 AM. |

![]() What a beautiful idea, tehKitten. I love how people are starting to help each other spontaneously and voluntarily, without the need for contracts or money, without distrust. And I'm a bit jealous too, because I always wanted to translate (books I like). ![]() Not sure if the greek ebook market is developed enough yet, but worth considering.

I added some colors to the first post, and I'm almost done reading. After that I will send you a PM, with most of the questions. (expect a lot ^.^")
And, at school I've read a piece of the story to some of my classmates, and they like it too!

Where are the other people's? As soon as I got the document I start translating. But I want to have another one in queue. (A)
It's not that I want to rush things, but just, if I want to take a break of translating for a sec, I can read a bit of the next book, and then continue to translate. And if I have a queue it makes me feel important.

Hello tehKitten,
Would you like to translate A Garden of Secrets? It's a 40K word paranormal romance set in a magical place called Winterwood, complete with shapeshifters and dragons! If you want it, let me know and I'll send you whatever type file you require. Thank you for such a nice offer! ![]() Toni Leland http://www.tonileland.com |
