Choose your words more carefully, please. This is just a matter of common courtesy, you know?

What Software have you been using? I use Ubuntu and Xandros Presto on my laptops and I am quite pleased with the software available. Open office is much less bloaty and much more snappy than MSOffice, Evince kicks the crud out of Adobe Reader, Calibre is a bit snappier on linux (at least IME), the Kobo eReader Beta is pretty nice, and I generally have much better security and stability than I do on the Windows PCs I've used. Oh, and FBReader. I love FBReader. I'm not a gamer, so that may be what you're complaining about. In terms of practical applications, I have nothing but praise for the Linux distros that I've used (Puppy, Xandros, etc.). I was even able to set up my scanner and install OCR software easily in an ill-fated (i.e. tedious) attempt to digitize my library.

Windows applications doesn't work on ARM (even in WINE). And using Intel in tablet devices is not that easy because of battery life and heat. Also the requirements of Windows are quite high for a tablet device (especially taking into account that Intel Atom processor are not speed demons).

My point exactly. It's 5.5lbs and 14" diagonal and looks like 1.5-2" thick at least (folded). It's heavier and bigger than most desktop replacements and it's got no excuse not to be carrying a core i7, a 12 cell battery, and enough plutonium for a tactical nuke in that giant heavy chassis.

At work I used the original Compaq portable when I traveled. I can still remember the stares I received in '87 and '88 when I put it in the overhead compartment. No HD just dual floppies. But it worked and earned frequent flier status

I have the Entourage Edge and it's a neat device, especially since the last couple of updates. Still a bit heavy and bulky but it works nicely.

Looks just the right size to me. Exactly what I've been looking for in one. Size wise, I mean.

The naked boys running around makes the same kind of disjointed sense as the massive double tablet the girls appear to be holding, creating a beautiful surreal pastiche. Much like how Dali's melting watches look completely natural in his landscapes with monstrous humans and weird bugs.

Another Ad campaign shows how epic the device is:

The new Kno has many uses! Good for use by weight lifters, and spoiled princesses, by porn stars, and by lesbian love triangles, even by Al Franken and Morgan Freeman. So put down your bong and buy one today!

Every one that wants to read for recreation, please step to the back of the room. This is NOT for reading the latest best seller.

"Is that for real?

Way too big with the silly (IMO) double screen design."

I'm using 2 screens. One 22 inch and one 19 inch. When I'm studying I use every inch, and sometimes wish I had a third! I also will use a (paper) notebook as well.

"--just saying that it wasn't something I'd want. Even being a professor who still deals with textbooks for classes I'm teaching etc."

Just as a professor - Do students need only one text book? No need to highlight or mark up text? No need of looking up outside references? No need to take notes? No need to look up definitions?

In one MR section I saw a book mentioned - "Die a Dry Death". It mentioned the name of a ship (Batavia) that rang a bell, but one that I couldn't pin down.

So a side trip to Google brought me this (among much else):

It's not the ship that matters, but that with internet access you can gain a better grasp of whatever you're studying.

I was recently in an office supply store and saw a netbook computer with a 10 inch screen. I turned it so the screen was vertical. Ignoring everything else, my impression was that the screen was ok to read on, but was too small for me to use with schematics. Two 10 inch screens would not be much better for a student.

Watch the video to see how something like this could be used to study.

Don't forget to check out the students responses.

The Kno is in line with the Entourage Edge, HP Slate, & Microsoft Courier Tablets. Not an ebook reader.

Does it have problems? Probably.

Give up a small reader? No.

Guys? What guys???

I'm looking at that 17-inch MacBook Pro the girls are holding. Did you Kno that it weighs 6.6 pounds? And it only gets a max of 10 hours?

Ooops,. My mistake. That’s a 5.5 pound, dual touch screen reader. But even with 2 large screens it can get a max of eight hours.

All this bickering over OS, weight, and size is like kids arguing about cars.

DIFFERENT SIZES ARE BETTER SUITED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES.

I'm not going to lean back and read "War and Peace" with this monster.

Nor would I swap back and forth between 2 or 3 books on a 6 inch reader to study chemistry.
