Chesterton, G.K.: The Club of Queer Trades, Illustrated, v2 25 Nov 2014

This is version 2

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936), 'the prince of paradox' was an English writer and polemicist whose prolific output included philosophy, ontology, poetry, drama, journalism, public lecturing and debating, biography, Christian apologetics, fantasy, and detective fiction. His writings and conversation displayed wit and humour, and serious comments on government, politics, economics, philosophy, theology, literature, and many other topics.

The Club of Queer Trades is a collection of six stories, each of which is centered on a person who is making his living by some unique and extraordinary means of earning a living. An introduction leads into the first story, and the last story is followed by a conclusion.

The principle character says "Oh, the mere facts!... are you still so sunk in superstitions... that you believe in facts? Do you not trust an immediate impression?"

The source text was Project Gutenberg 1696-h.htm checked against a pdf of the 1905 Harper and Bros London edition, and the cover and illustrations were taken from the 1905 American edition. I have silently corrected typos, curled quotes, replaced italics, diacritics, and scene breaks, used British English, and made changes to spelling, punctuation, and hyphenation using oxforddictionaries.com.

Thanks, Neil. You calling anyone generous is the pot calling the kettle black.

As always I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions on how the formatting and presentation could be improved.

Regards, Alex

Version 2 is illustrated, and the internal structure has been simplified.
